to stay in touch with prospects until they are ready to buy

that does not cost you more than you make

5.  having people who will call customers and prospects,
get the sale and up-sell them for you

6.  having tracking set up so you know exactly what’s
working and what isn’t

The first step of any plan to make money online should always be to check for what people are buying. It’s very difficult to create markets and make any money, it’s a lot easier to pick a market that already has a flood of buyers and position your offer in front of them.

The cool thing about online marketing is that you don’t have to guess, there’s a sure-fire way to find out.

And this technique works as a way to identify market demand even if you are not selling anything online too . . .

Are you familiar with Google AdWords?  These are those ads you see at the top of a page in a Google search and also down the right side. All those listings are paid ads.

The other search engines do the same thing and that’s how they make their billions.

So, if you could find out what the advertisers pay for a click on their ad and also find out how much traffic that keyword had, can you see how that might be useful to help you make money online?

Well, you can.

There are plenty of places to find this info, just type something like “Most Expensive Google AdWords Keywords” into Google. Here’s the best one I found when doing that:

Here’s what the column headings mean:

• “Keyword” is the word the advertiser is paying to get their ad seen on.
• “Search Volume is the number of searches per month in the US
• “Average CPC” means the average price an advertiser is paying per CLICK on their ad
• “Category” is the general category that keyword falls in.

The green and red arrows refer to the trends and whether they are going up or down.  They update this list monthly.

The top 4 terms on the list all refer to a kind of cancer caused by asbestos.  Per click costs of $146 sure tell you that a lead is valuable in that market!  And, in fact, the lawyers chasing those clients are looking at million dollar settlements.

So, what these numbers are telling you is what a customer is worth in those niches.  If you wanted to make money online just by doing SEO, pick some of those terms to get leads and then sell those leads to the companies paying $146 per click!

You will probably find the top few terms to be competitive since most Internet marketers already know this, but if you do this analysis in your market or niche, it can be extremely helpful to gauge the “commercial buying intent” of someone clicking on those keywords.

One more tip – do a search on the keyword(s) you are considering.  If there are no ads on the top or the side of the search results, that means the term does not have high “buying interest” so is not worth targeting.

I normally try to keyword optimize all my posts – as you should as well – but – I thought this was so cool, I just needed to send it to you without any optimization . . .

In case you can’t read the aweber tracking chart, here’s what it says:

Email # 1 – got 54 opens – 7.4% of emails mailed
Email # 2 – got 27 opens – 3.9% of emails sent
Email # 3 – got 44 opens – 6.1% of emails sent

What this means is:

My first email got 7.4% of the people on my list to open it, but the two follow up emails sent to people who had not opened the earlier emails got a total of 10.0% opens – more than double the first email!

This means that if you follow what I told you in the prior post, you can get over twice as many people to read your email!

I feel so stupid not to have figured this out before!  What an easy way to double your opens and response.

The video below shows how to do this step by step using aweber, but most autoresponder or email broadcast systems let you do the same thing.

Essentially all we are doing to increase email broadcast optins is to send the same email broadcast a second and third time to the people who never opened it.  We change the headline, but otherwise use the same email.  Those receiving it will not know it’s the same message because they have not opened it before.

The way you do this is to click on the broadcast you want to resend, then click on the number of people who opened the broadcast.

Next, there is a button on the right side of the page where you can click on the non-opens. When you select that, it shows you how many people did not open your first send so “click send to them” to create a new “segment”.

Then copy the message by clicking the “copy” button and I recommend only changing the email subject line. Since the people who will see this message never opened the first one, maybe the new subject line will entice them to open it.

You can do this same process yet again for those who didn’t open the first or the second send and send a third time with yet another headline.

You do not need to worry about sending the same message to those who already opened it because you are only sending to those who didn’t.

This is guaranteed to get your message more “opens” and only takes a minute to do and the easiest way I know to increase email broadcast optins.

I have no idea, but it’s said that these geo focused maps as a background helps conversion. You can also use variables for city name and other terms to further make the page customized to your visitor.

Since out of the last 35 years I’ve either been married or living with someone, I have really no idea how to cook anything.  So, for your entertainment – especially all you women readers, feel free to give me your solutions to my problem below;)

I decided to start with oatmeal for two reasons – one, it’s healthy, and two, there are directions on the container!

Attempt # 1

I faithfully followed the directions to mix everything in a bowl and nuke on high for 3 minutes. What happened was not this pretty but I couldn’t find any photos online with an oatmeal explosion with no oatmeal left in the bowl at all!

Attempt # 2

A well meaning woman friend told me I should have covered the bowl, so I did that with Saran wrap for attempt # 2. The results were the same as attempt # 1 – a total mess. She asked me if I had poked holes in the Saran wrap and, of course, I said “no” – you didn’t tell me to do that!

Attempt # 3

So, after poking holes, I tried again. No difference, the oatmeal came through and expanded the holes. Another explosion. At this point I was beginning to wonder if I’d go through the entire container of oatmeal and never get to eat any of it . . . So being a guy, I decided if the oatmeal was escaping through the flimsy wrap, I’d put a nice heavy plate over the bowl instead.

Attempt # 4

Here we go again – midway through the third minute, I hear a crash. It turns out the explosion happened anyway and knocked the plate off the oatmeal bowl! Not having anything heavier, it’s time for “plan B”. The directions said you can cook it on the stove too . . .

Attempt # 5

No explosion! Yeah!!! But, half the oatmeal is stuck to the black crud on the bottom of the pan. My friend mentioned I should have used a non-stick pan, but of course, I don’t have any of those, my ex took them . . . At least I get to eat some this time! And after soaking the pan in soapy water for 3 days and still not able to get the black stuff off the bottom, I was about to throw the pan out when my ex came over and showed me there was steel wool under the sink and it could get all the black stuff out. A wonder – I’d never used that stuff before and always wondered what is was for. . . She did tell me not to use that miracle stuff on non-stick pans tho . . .

Attempt # 6

The next attempt will be tomorrow – I have now been advised not to use the high setting on the microwave, but a lower setting – so, once I figure out how to do that, we’ll try again. The instructions did mention an amount of watts your microwave is, but nowhere on the microwave does it say –

I expect to be back for your further enjoyment tomorrow – Once I conquer the oatmeal mountain, I wonder what will happen if I try to cook an egg??

It was recommended to me by the tech support people at Techsmith (Camtasia).  I’m including a 15 second test video using it so you can compare to my earlier videos done with the built in webcam on my iMac.

Let me know if you see a difference in your browser. It definitely looks better to me. It was only $50 on Amazon.

This webcam has autofocus, swivels and can easily be moved from one computer to another when traveling.

Not all webcams and not all Logitech webcams work on a Mac, but this one does.

Picture quality and even the width of the field are much better.

Your “meta description” text no longer counts for SEO purposes, but it’s what people see under your title in the search results.

What I just learned today, is that after 155 characters, it will get cut off. What you want is a well written description along with a “call to action” that gets the searcher to click on your link, not someone else’s.

In a survey reported in the SEmoz newsletter you can see only 34% of all companies are doing this correctly!  They either don’t even have a “meta description” or it’s too short or too long.

Getting ranked high on the search results is only step one – then you need to make people want to click your link!

What you put in your meta description is for that purpose and that purpose only.  It does you no good for SEO, but can do you a lot of good with the real people who see your listing!

So, make sure to include a call to action and give people to click your link.  Offering something free can be good.  Think of it like a classified ad in a newspaper where you only have a set number of characters/spaces.

Write your meta description as though it was an ad, because that’s what it is!

If you have a WordPress blog, it’s easy to fix – just go to your admin login and look for the section called, you guessed it, “meta description”.

Any easy way to count characters is by using Word, Pages or any other editor that does it for you.  That way, you optimize your use of the available space.

It’s amazing to me that only 34% of the listings that show up in search do this right.  If you do, you can leapfrog over your competitors.  This is a lot easier to fix than page authority, quality backlinks or any other issues to get you ranked higher – at the end of the day, it’s all about clicks and leads.
